World Scout Jamboree
After more than a year of preparation, at 5.30pm on Wednesday 25th July, two contingents (Apples & Pears) of Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Leaders from across Herefordshire & Worcestershire started to arrive at Worcester Rugby Club to board the coaches that would take them to the 21st Word Scout Jamboree at Hylands Park, Essex.
They were waved off by members of their families, the County Commissioner and Deputy County Commissioners for two weeks of educational and adventurous activities, memorable events and international friendship, amongst 40,000 young people from nearly every country in the World.
Following their remarkable experience, many of them are now looking forward to the next World Scout Jamboree in Sweden in 2011 for which plans are already being discussed.
Over the two weeks of the 2007 World Scout Jamboree, there were 400 coaches in use every day bringing participants to/from the event, taking them to/from offsite activities and bringing day visitors on/off site. The driver of one of the coaches bringing home members of the Hereford & Worcester Contingents said he’d been so amazed by the two weeks of Scouting he’d seen that he was going home to volunteer as a leader!
