GSL Essentials Day

As you know we have 2 days a year for new GSLs and DESCs, usually I invite GSLs and DESCs directly.
On this occasion I am unable to gather the information about who are new their roles.
Please forward this email to any new to post GSLs, AGSLs or DESCs in your District to ensure they are offered the opportunity to attend this event.

GSL Essentials Support Day
Saturday 6th February
Holiday Inn Hotel, Walsall

It complements the GSL Essentials – an induction document for new GSLs and DESC Essentials - an induction document for new DESCs

This one day workshop has been designed with newly appointed District Explorer Scout Commissioners (DESCs) and Group Scout Leaders (GSL) in mind.

However, we are also happy to welcome Assistant Group Scout Leaders (AGSLs), and anyone interested in knowing more about the GSL role. If you are not currently a DESC but are interested in the role please contact the event organiser before reserving your place.

The day will cover-

  • The role of the GSL / The role of the DESC
  • Executives and AGMs
  • Getting to know your team
  • Managing your Group or Units recruitment
  • Introduction to development planning recruitment

The day also includes free time to enable you to chat and network with other DESCs & GSL’s from across the West Midlands.

There will also be an opportunity to chat to the Regional Development Service who can offer support and advice on all aspects of recruitment and development within scouting. There will also be a resource area for you to obtain samples of free resources that are available.

The day will begin with coffee, registration and Bacon rolls from 8:30am with a prompt 9:00am start. We expect the day to end at approx 4:30pm.

The event is free to attend and lunch and all refreshments are provided.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis
